Through our top of the line processing facility, testing is completed on the mussels to ensure that they are free of marine toxins and environmental contaminants. Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) tests regularly for these toxins at the processing facility. Bivalve shellfish, such as mussels can be carriers for marine toxins such as Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP), Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP) and Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning (DSP) because they filter microscopic organisms from the water. Consumers need to be aware of these when eating wild caught mussels but never fear with Iceberg Select’s Organically Farmed Mussels, we are disease free and will be continue to prove it through CFIA testing.
